PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
